Description : The coin shows the portraits of Grand Duke Henri on the left and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume on the right, looking to the right, according to a design concept of the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg - BCL (Luxembourg Central Bank) based on photographs. The country name "LËTZEBUERG" (Luxembourg) is at the top and the year of issue "2006" at the bottom, flanked on the left by the country abbreviation "S" (Suomi, Finland in Finnish) and on the right by a horn of plenty with rounds the mint mark of the Finnish mint Suomen Rahapaja OY in Vantaa. The plaster model of the coin was made by Erkki Vainio.

Description : The late Gothic Holstentor, built between 1464 and 1478 and completely restored around 1871, is depicted with its facade facing Holstenplatz (Holsten square), looking towards the city. As one of the two remaining gates of the medieval town fortifications, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Old Town of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck since 1987 and represents the federal state of "SCHLESWIG‐HOLSTEIN" inscribed below the depiction on the commemorative coin. Midway on the left is the German mint mark (A = Staatliche Münze Berlin in Berlin, D = Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt in Munich, F = Staatliche Münzen Baden‐Württemberg in Stuttgart, G = Staatliche Münzen Baden‐Württemberg in Karlsruhe or J = Landesbetrieb Hamburgische Münze in Hamburg) and midway on the right the initials "HH" of the designer Heinz Hoyer. The name "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" (Federal States of Germany) is arranged in a semicircle at the bottom of the ring, while at the top the year "2006" is flanked on both sides by six European stars.

Description : The 2006 Winter Olympics were held in Turin, with the Alpine skiing competitions taking place in Sestriere, at an altitude of around 2,000 metres. The coin, designed by Maria Carmela Colaneri, shows an alpine skier and Turin's landmark, the Mole Antonelliana, built between 1863 and 1889. Initially planned as a synagogue by architect Alessandro Antonelli, the out‐of‐control construction costs exceeded the financial strength of the Jewish community ‐ in 1877, thanks to a citizens' initiative, the building was taken over by the city of Turin. Today it houses the National Film Museum. At the top, the event is called "GIOCHI INVERNALI" (Winter Games) and below the tower "TORINO" (Turin) as the venue of the sporting event. To the right of the skier is the year of issue "2006" written vertically and below it are the designer's initials "M.C.C.". To the right of the tower the name of the state is depicted as the ligature "RI" (Repubblica Italiana, Italian Republic) and the "R" the mint mark of the Italian mint Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome. The coin was minted in an exceptionally high mintage of 40 million pieces.

Description : At the session of the United Nations General Assembly held at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris on the 10th of December 1948, Resolution 217 was adopted with the ‐ legally non‐binding ‐ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Its Article 1 reads: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights". The coin designed by Luc Luycx is dedicated to this resolution. A rectangle surrounded by curved lines, resembling a stylised book, bears a circle symbolising the circle of the earth and the number "60". Below this, the occasion of issue "UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS" is written in four lines. Above it is the year "2008". Below is in a semicircle the name of the issuing country "BELGIE ‐ BELGIQUE ‐ BELGIEN" in the three national languages Dutch, French and German, flanked on the left by the helmeted head of the Archangel Michael the mint mark of the Royal Belgian mint Monnaie Royale de Belgique / Koninklijke Munt van België / Königliche Belgische Münzprägeanstalt in Brussels and on the right by a scale the logo of mint master Romain Coenen.

Description : The coin shows two faces, one male and one female, separated by a thin curved line. On the left side is "1.10. 1906", the date of the introduction of women's suffrage in Finland, on the right the year of issue "2006", divided in two by the country code "FI" (Finland). The initials "M" ‐ once each next to both faces ‐ stand for the coin designer Pertti Mäkinen and the mint director Raimo Tapio Makkonen respectively. The coin was struck without a mint mark by the Finnish mint Suomen Rahapaja OY in Vantaa.

Description : Christopher Columbus (∼1451‐1506) was an Italian navigator in Castilian service who discovered America in 1492 when he reached an island in the Bahamas. Luciana De Simomi shows his portrait after a painting by Sebastiano del Piombo ‐ with his name and the year 1519 ‐ together with his three sailing ships Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria, with which he crossed the Atlantic. Below the inscription "SAN MARINO", a 16‐rayed sun is depicted at the top in the form of a compass rose, a graphic means of representing winds and wind directions or cardinal points. The dates "1506✧2006" appear on a scroll below, with the designer's initials "LDS" underneath. The letter "R" the mint mark of the Italian mint Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome is placed to the left of the uppermost ship.

Description : The coin, designed by Orietta Rossi, depicts a Swiss Guardsman taking an oath of allegiance to the Pope. The flag of the Guard is grasped with the left hand to move it above the horizontal flagpole, while the oath is taken with the right hand raised and three fingers spread (which, among other things, symbolises the Trinity). The swearing‐in of the new recruits takes place on May 6th (the anniversary of the sacking of Rome in 1527) and for the first time in 2006 in St Peter's Square. The inscription "GUARDIA SVIZZERA PONTIFICIA" (Pontifical Swiss Guard) forms a semicircle around the Guard, under the flag is "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO" (Vatican City). On the left is "1506", the year the Guard was founded, on the right the year of issue "2006" and below is the letter "R" the mint mark of the Italian mint Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome. The logos "O. ROSSI" of the designer and "M.C.C.INC." (INC. = Incisore / Engraver) of the engraver Maria Carmela Colaneri can be found on the left and right above the flag.
