"Three hands". The national side of the €2 coin shows the three Baltic States as three hands that together symbolically hold and protect Freedom. The design they make up is reminiscent of a vortex or a cyclone, spinning clockwise. It is also similar to the "triskele", which is an ancient solar symbol. Freedom is an achievement, not a status. To protect it we must move forward and staying in place is not possible. Maintaining freedom and moving towards a better future can only be achieved by the three Baltic States working together. © Design Mall Nukke |

"Three pines". The evergreen pine, its branches reaching upwards, is a resilient tree that can survive even in the most hostile environment. These characteristics make the pine a symbol of immortality and eternity. The pine itself is a classic feature of the Baltic coastline and of the countless bogs and marches around there. The three anopies of the pines in the design on the coin follow exactly the border contours of the three Baltic states, the thickness of the trunks of the trees reflect the size of the population of each country. © Design Liina Lõõbas and Kristo Kooskora |

"Tree of light". The three Baltic States are the three branches of the Tree of Light, which grows strong on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The tree symbolisis the strength, toughness, and will of the Baltic nations. The Tree's light, like the sun, provides us with protection and warmth. Our roots are deep, while the branches keep reaching out towards the Sun. © Design Rüta Briede and Artis Briedis |
